A new and what promises to be, exciting musical adaptation of the critically acclaimed show Essence of Ireland, called Ireland’s Call, comes to the Charter Theatre, Preston on Thursday, March 10 as part of a UK tour.
During the show, young dancers from the Preston based Whelan Joyce School of Irish Dance will be performing alongside the main cast.
Inspired by true events and spanning three decades, the musical tells the story of strong-headed Sean Dempsey’s love for his Irish homeland and who, at the end of World War II, also leaves behind his childhood sweetheart Cora in search of a better life in the Big Apple.
Can their love survive the Atlantic Divide? Will Sean be able to resist ‘Ireland’s call’ as he embarks on an adventure full of danger, tragedy and lost love? Only fate will tell...
Creative Director Ged Graham says the story is set against a backdrop of key historical events including America’s introduction to rock and roll, the rebuilding of London post World War II and John F Kennedy’s historic presidential visit to Ireland in 1963 and is said to be full of emotional highs and lows.
The musical includes a mix of original scores and well-known songs such as Galway Girl, Isle of Hope Isle Of Tears, I Loved Her First, Tell Me Ma, Irish Rover.
