Garstang FC substitute David Jack stepped up to head home a stoppage time winner in the end of season derby at the Riverside.
The last gasp goal in the 94th minute saw the Riversiders clinch a fifth place finish just ahead of their rivals in the West Lancashire Football League Premier Division.
Town thought they had snatched an early lead when Jonty McDonald’s ninth minute corner went all the way in but the goal was disallowed after the referee called a foul on Garstang keeper Mark Thornley.
An entertaining match saw chances for both sides, efforts by Ryan McKenna, Joe Melling and Lee Ashcroft all denied, whilst for Garstang Dre” Mattichechia, Gaz Fawcett and Ryan Dodd were not short of opportunities.
But it was Jack replacing Tom Graham who finally broke the deadlock after narrowly missing out with his first touch of the game, just failing to make contact with a Fawcett cross.
Stuart Garry brought “Dre” Mattichechia down on the edge of the box; Matthew Bell took the free kick and Panepinto headed back across the goal for Jack to make the finish past Town keeper Ben Walker.
Commenting after the game Town manager Lee Ashcroft said: “We had more chances than them and on another day we would’ve gone on and won the game.
“We cannot keep a clean sheet and we conceded in the 94th minute which is unfortunate for our new keeper (Ben Walker) who made who had a really good game, good kicking and handling.
“I’d like to thank the fans and everyone who’s made the season. Hopefully we can get it right and make next season a good one; challenge for a higher finish and maybe win a cup.”
