Longridge Town are aiming to build on a ‘perfect’ October by dumping Vickerstown out of the Richardson Cup in their first round clash at the Mike Riding Ground on Saturday.

Town won all of their five matches last month and soared up to third in the West Lancs League Premier Division table.

And Lee Ashcroft’s men are currently level on points with Charnock Richard who they will face in the quarter final of the Lancashire Amateur Shield on November 14. Town have already beaten 13th-placed Vickerstown in the league at home as a hat-trick from Brad Carsley and a goal for Ryan McKenna clinched a 4-1 victory on August 22.

And former PNE player Ashcroft is relishing the clash.

He said: “We’ve been in fine form going into a massive fixture. We’re winning games, land ong may it continue.”

Despite being sent off in Town’s 5-1 demolition of Crooklands Casuals it is likely Ashcroft will start up front alongside Brad Carsley against Vickerstown.

Last week’s debutant Ash Ball is ineligible for Saturday’s clash and Jonty McDonald, Rick Murch and Ryan White are still unavailable.

Coach Dave Foster was named among the substitutes against Crooklands but Ashcroft is not worried about his thinning squad.

He said: “We’ve got a few players away or cup tied so I might get another start. I’ll miss the Charnock game and a few others which is a shame as I’ve just started to enjoy playing again.”

“I don’t want a massive squad. It’s a tough task keeping everyone happy. If players are injured or unavailable what can I do?”
