Competition glory for young gymnasts

LONGRIDGE gymnastics club swept the board at a county-wide competition.

The club's talented bunch of young amateur athletes, with age groups from under-8s to over-12s, came home with a total of 35 medals at the recent Lancashire County Novice and Intermediate competition.

Club officials hailed the performance as an "exceptional result", after the group's preperations were disrupted by a recent move to new facilities.

The News reported last month how the club had moved to a new training base at St Cecilia's RC Technology College.

The 200 member club moved to the new premises after quitting Longridge Sports centre, citing "extreme cold" in the winter.

They are continuing to search for permanent premises.

Young Holly Williams, 11, was among the club's shining stars at the competition, scooping the under-12s novice champion accolade.

And the club's other gynamsists picked up a truckload of medals for various events.
