Women rescued from flooded car

Three women had to be rescued from a car after it became stuck in flood water in Clitheroe.

Three fire engines and a specialist appliance from Clitheroe, Nelson and Penwortham fire stations were called to the scene in Sawley Road at 1-25am on Sunday.

The water had risen to the door handles of the car and firefighters were forced to use life jackets and chimney rods in order to aid the rescue.

Crews were at the scene for 35 minutes. The women were uninjured.

At 12-25pm crews were called out again to the Sawley Road area when another car became stuck in flood water. Firefighters, with the driver at the wheel, managed to push the car clear. Nobody was hurt.
