Staff at a popular charity shop have sent out an urgent SOS for donations as bargain hunters have raided their stocks.

Donations to the Age UK shop in Moor Lane, Clitheroe, have plummeted in the last three months. Staff usually put out betwen 800 and 1,000 new items each week, but the decline in stock means they can only manage between 400 and 500.

Shop manager Kelly Prince said: “Our storeroom is usually piled high but now it’s almost empty. Although this is a good thing as it means our takings are up we cannot cope with the increasing demand if nothing comes in, we cannot sell fresh air.

“Without continued donations of everything, from clothing to cookware, Age UK cannot continue its vital work to help improve the lives of older people across the country.”

Age UK is now urging everyone to de-clutter for spring and donate any unwanted items to its shop.

Kelly added: “We have a lot of local supporters who donate reguarly to our shop and we are grateful for that, but we are still struggling.’’

Anything the shops does not sell is recycled through the Pre-Cycle partnership so nothing goes to waste.

For those who cannot drop items off a collection service is run by the charity. Anyone who would like more information is asked to ring 01200 442273.
