The Glass House Cafe Bar and Tea Rooms in Stoneygate Lane, Ribchester has closed its doors for the last time after owners decided not to renew the lease.
In a shock announcement this week, Alison Brown said: “Totally unexpectantly, and without warning, my lease on The Glass House has not been renewed. As the matter is now being handled by my solicitors, I don’t wish to comment further.”
I want to pass on a huge thank you to my loyal and hard working staff, to my family and friends who have supported me throughout and of course to my wonderful customers who I will miss so muchAlison Brown
“However, I would like to thank my staff, my suppliers, and customers who have supported me through three enjoyable and exciting years. I have loved every minute of it.
“The Glass House was a remarkable success and I have been completely overwhelmed by messages of support.”
Earlier, Alison had posted a notice on social media saying: “Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond my control, I will not be able to return to re-open at The Glass House on January 5th as planned.
“I have enjoyed a fabulous three years seeing the business evolve and am just so sorry not to be able to continue.

Since opening The Glass House in March 2013 after taking redundancy from the BBC, Alison’s venture had grown to attract customers from all over the north west and further afield as news of its setting, in the old nursery greenhouse of the former Stydd Nurseries, and ambiance, coupled with its culinary delights, for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea on week days and then with added summer evening openings, travelled far and wide.
On Trip Advisor, 221 reviews of The Glass House put it at 4.5 of 5 with 137 customers rating it “excellent” and 50 “very good”.
Produce and ingredients were predominantly locally sourced.
Only recently, The Glass House won the accolade of “highly commended” in the food section at the Ribble Valley Business Awards.
