The Canal and River Trust wants to recruit a new volunter moorings ranger to monitor boats on the northern sections of the Lancaster Canal.
It says the role would turn walking or cycling along the Canal into a meaningful volunteer activity.
The Trust, a charity caring for the nation’s 2,000 miles of canals, is seeking a ranger to help monitor boats in Galgate, Bilsborrow, Lancaster, Morecambe, Carnforth, Tewitfield and Hest Bank.
The role involves collecting boat details and inputting data during walks or cycles along the canal.
The ranger would become part of a team of volunteers who help the Trust engage with visitors and keep the Canal in good working order. Full training is given and expenses reimbursed.
Matt Taylor, the Trust’s Volunteer Development Coordinator, said: “Volunteers play a vital role in supporting the work of the Trust. We are looking for someone who is fit, happy to be outdoors in all weathers and enjoys being part of a team. The role is part time, flexible and could suit someone retired, who works shifts or is looking for work experience.”
