Police warning: Treacherous conditions due to heavy rain fall

Police are urging motorists to drive carefully after a build up of surface water on the Ribble Valley’s roads because of the heavy rain fall.

 Whalley Road leading into Clitheroe is particularly bad with large pools of water developing. Lancashire County Council highways has been informed.

There is also a lot of surface water on the A59 and around Longridge.

Clitheroe Police’s Sgt Dave Simpson urged people to drive carefully.

He said that the river levels were particularly high at Edisford Bridge, but as yet there have been no reports of flooding at the normal hot spots such as Sawley.

However, there is a flood alert for the Rivers Ribble, Hodder and other watercourses, from Settle to Samlesbury including Clitheroe, Gisburn, Sawley, Waddington and Ribchester.
