Master baker passes on his skills to fellow Rotarians

Ribblesdale Rotarian Barry Wood, the proprietor of Woods Bakery which is daily blessed with a long queue of people spilling out onto the pavement to buy his wares, shared his cake making skills at a recent Rotary meeting.

Their task was to decorate a Christmas cake and the Rotarians were shown how to roll out the marzipan, then glue it to the cake with boiled apricot jam & trim it. Rolling out the icing was a bit more difficult as it was pretty sticky, but that eventually made its way on to the cakes which were finally decorated in the traditional fashion with snowmen and the like.

Here you can see some of the Rotarians honing their piping skills before being let loose on the real thing.

At the end of a most enjoyable evening John Pallister auctioned the best cake on behalf of Crossroads Care Ribble Valley. The bidding eventually reached the princely sum of £30 and was taken home by the club’s newest member Simon O’Rourke.
