The organisers of Ribble Valley Music Festival are providing the rare opportunity later this month to enjoy the performance of an opera locally.
And when Encore Opera Group make their debut at the festival they will heighten the enjoyment of this sometimes hard to understand genre by giving an explanation before each performance.
Festival organiser Clive Greenwood explained: “The glorious and passionate music of opera can excite and enthrall us, yet we often do not know the plot or what the song is about because it is sung in a language we do not understand.
“When Encore Opera Group make their debut in the Ribble Valley Music Festival they will double the enjoyment through explaining the plot and characters before each performance, which increases the enjoyment of some of the best loved music in the world.”
This gala afternoon of favourite opera arias, solos, duets and choruses from the heart wrenching to the hilarious will take place at 2 pm on Sunday June 19th at St Leonard’s Church, Downham.
The programme will also include the wit and satire of Gilbert and Sullivan.
Clive added: “Members of Encore Opera Group are professionally trained and have a unique combination of both established and emerging performers allowing them to produce a very special and unforgettable sound.
“The group’s enthusiasm and commitment to opera is always evident in their passionate singing, and under the inspirational leadership of their Musical Director, David Chapman of Giggleswick School, they produce spellbinding concerts.”
