Moth trap boost for Hurst Green church team

Members of St John’s Church, Hurst Green “Church Goes Wild” group bought a moth trap with help from a grant from Champion Bowland.

The trap is used by the group, who then record their findings in a log book.

To help these amateur moth-ers, local expert Graham Dixon came to give a talk about moths and the importance of recording their populations, which was followed by craft activities for the children on the life-cycle of the moth. Although there are over 2,600 species of moth in the UK, this part of Lancashire is very under-recorded, and so it is hoped that the work done by this small group will help to fill the gap in the records (
