A Lancashire post office is to get a major makeover with extended opening hours.

Knott End On Sea Post Office on Lancaster Road will be modernised into an open-plan branch under new plans.

The branch will have three serving positions and be open from 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Saturday, giving customers an extra fives hours of service every Saturday afternoon.

The post office will be closed for refurbishment from Tuesday March 18.

It is set to reopen on Saturday March 29.

Customers are advised to use branches in Hambleton or Stalmine in the meantime.

Post Office area manager Julie Kemp said: “We understand how important Post Office services are to the people of Knott End On Sea and we are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.”

She added: “This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”

A Post Office spokesman added: “The Government has committed £1.34bn for the Post Office network to make sure there is no programme of Post Office closures and to update branches; in November the Government announced a further £640m investment in the Post Office network.”
