Many a Sunday dinner was interrupted this afternoon after a power cut in Clitheroe.

Residents living in properties in Henthorn Road, Woone Lane, Newton Street, Whalley Road and Hayhurst Street were just some of those who were forced to dig out their candles and torches when power cut out at around 3-30 pm.

The street lights also went out on Whalley Road.

Electricity North West said there had been “a high voltage fault affecting Clitheroe”.

A spokesman explained on the energy supplier’s website: “This fault is due to damage to our equipment. Our engineers are aware of the problem. Our team is now on site and working to restore your supply.”

Most residents subsequently had their power restored by 5 pm.
