Fine cheese and wines were the main ingredients for a gourmet fundraiser which raised £920 towards one of Longridge’s main summer events, the Goosnargh and Longridge show on July 9.
Held at St Wilfrid’s Club in Longridge, more than 100 attended including 2016 agricultural show president, Edward Forshaw and chairman Adrian Hill who was organiser for the ninth of the fantastic similar evenings that he has held for the show.
His Hill’s Fine Foods of Longridge and Ben Fullalove of Fullalove’s Wines, Ribchester provided a wide range to sample, the evening starting with a bang as the champagne-style pink Cremant de Bourgogne was put with a Yellison goat cheese from Skipton.
This delightful combination was followed by another five cheeses, all with distinctive tastes coming from Garstang, Ireland, Yorkshire, Italy and Sussex and matched with a fine flavoured red or white wine from as far afield as New Zealand and Argentina.
The evening closed with a Cropwell Bishop Stilton put with a Valdespino Pedro Ximenez Sherry which made a grand finale to the event. Adrian and Ben gave a journey around the world providing information about each wine and cheese.
The organisers thanked the staff of St Wilfrid`s for their support, Ben and Adrian and their team of helpers for their efforts and everyone who wdent along to support such an enjoyable evening.
