Shopkeepers are are being warned to be on the lookout for forged £50 notes after two incidents in Longridge last week, believed to have been carried out by the same man.

A police spokesman said Sainsbury’s supermarket on Inglewhite Road was targeted twice by the man using fake £50 notes purporting to be from the “Irish First Trust” and was successful on one occasion.

The first time, Tuesday, March 24, the man successfully completed his transaction before the deception was uncovered, but when he returned last Thursday, he was challenged by a member of staff who refused to cash the £50 note, and the man made his getaway.

The spokesman said anyone offered suspicious currency should contact police immediately.
