Farm owner loses clay pigeon shooting appeal

A WOODPLUMPTON farm owner has lost a battle to hold weekly clay pigeon shoots throughout the year.

James Dransfield had claimed the Sunday shoots – from 10am-2pm – on land at Toplands Farm, Woodplumpton Road, Woodplumpton, had been taking place for more than 10 years and, therefore, Preston Council were out of time in serving him with an enforcement notice.

But when Mr Dransfield appealed against the notice, an inspector ruled that while the unauthorised shooting had operated between January 2005 and January 2010, “the evidence relating to the l999-2004 period, when viewed alongside the contradictory information available at the inquiry, was, however, insufficient to discharge the onus on the appellant to demonstrate that the breach of planning control had occurred over the whole of this period”.

Mr Dransfield is, however, allowed to hold the clay pigeon shoots 28 times each year.
