Clitheroe Town Council’s annual dedication of the Christmas crib was held at Castlegate on Tuesday. Crowds gathered to attend the ceremony that marks the start of the festivities in the town. The crib dedication service was led by the Rev. Andy Froud with Clitheroe Town Mayor Coun. Sue Knox and Ribble Valley Mayor Coun. Bridget Hilton. Carols were sung by pupils from Edisford Primary School, Clitheroe.
The festivities include a Christmas fair on Saturday with attractions including Santa’s arrival by train. Santa will be catching the 10-20 am train from Blackburn arriving in Clitheroe about 10-40am and travelling through town on his sleigh to sit in his Grotto from 11 am - 4 pm. Thwaites shire horses will also be travelling around the town, there will be donkey rides for children and the day will end with a walking nativity with children in costume and a short service held at the Crib.
From Friday to Sunday the Ribble Valley Christmas fair will be held at Mrs Dowson’s Farm in Clayton-le-Dale with stalls, an ice rink and Santa’s grotto. It runs from 2pm until 11 pm on Friday and from noon until 11 pm on Saturday and on Sunday from 11 am until 8 pm.
There will be various stalls, Santa tractor rides and a Santa’s grotto, an ice rink and carol singing.
