County agricultural show will be back for three days

After an absence of eight years, the troubled 247-year-old Royal Lancashire Agricultural Show will definitely back this year, and the venue is Salesbury Hall at Ribchester.

Its revival, says the show society, comes after many requests from trade exhibitors, and will be held over three days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 7, 8 and 9.

Organisation of the show is said to be going well and moving fast and the show society is now are asking anyone who is interested in exhibiting to get in touch.

There is also an appeal out for stewards for all the sections, from pigs to poultry, from sheep to shires, from cheese to chickens, from horses to horticulture.

“In other words we need you,” says a spokesman, adding: “Please get in touch. It seems a long way off to August 2015 but it really isn’t.

“We have excellent facilities in our new offices. Many of the basic essentials to organise the county Show are in place.

“We now need people who want to see the show resurrected and become a regular feature on the county calendar.

“It’s up to you to make the show happen and make it a success. We need your expertise and enthusiasm.”

The society is said to have made much progress since the debacle of 2008.

It has secured “an excellent, tried and tested, showground” and also says it has the support of Ribble Valley Council as well as reaching agreements with Lancashire County Council’s highways department, Lancashire police traffic department and LCC’s tourist office. to ensure the show can go ahead

The society is also looking for people to take up membership and become sponsors.
