The owners of a Whalley care home that has been criticised by the Care Quality Commission have given an assurance that measures are being put in place to improve standards.
An inspection carried out by the CQC found that the Croft Care Home required improvement in four areas.
The 26 bedroomed home in King Street was taken over by London based Farrington Care Homes in 2013.
Director Mr Kirin Wathwain said : “We have taken on board what the inspection has said and steps to improve are being made all the time.’’
Inspectors said the home was not always safe and while enough staff were available staffing arrangements needed an ongoing review to ensure there were always enough on duty to respond to people’s needs. The report also called for medicine management practises to be improved. Inspectors said that staff knew how to report any concerns regarding possible abuse and they were happy that processes were in place to maintain a safe environment for residents.
After calling for more support to help residents eat their meals inspectors noted that processes were in place to train support and supervise staff in doing this and they also said that current plans to upgrade bathing facilities needed to continue.
The report highlighted the fact that while systems were in place so that people could raise concerns or issues about the home progress needed to be made to make sure complaints were properly managed. Inspectors said that the home was not always consistently led and while systems were in place to monitor the quality of service which included regular feedback from residents and audits, there was a lack of oversight and review of the service from the owners.
The Croft scored “good’’ when it came to the question is the service caring with people making positive commments about the caring attitude and kindness of staff.
In their report inspectors said they observed some respectful and considerate interactions. Residents also said their dignity and privacy was respected.
