Folk turned out in full force for the annual Boxing Day pram race in Longridge.

The popular event saw 41 teams and more than 200 racers take part in a host of outfits including the Red Arrows, a caterpillar and a lemon.

The race started at The Forrest Arms in Derby Road, Longridge, and costumed characters in prams shot off through the town.

The first team home was the Longridge Young Farmers. Field Day committee member Joan Potter said: “There have been some brilliant costumes. The first team back was the Longridge Young Farmers – they were a caterpillar, all in a line with material joining them.

“We have had a good day and a very good turn out.”

Teams registered from 10.30am yesterday morning and set off at noon in three separate sections, to keep everything running smoothly and so the first pub visited was not overrun by collectors.

The funds raised from the event will be shared between the Field Day funds and the Longridge First Responders.

Joan said the final amount will be a announced in a few days when all the money has been collected.
