Stickers are to be placed on green wheeled bins in Ribble Valley over the coming weeks reminding residents of changes to green waste collections.
From July 1st, food waste will be collected from Ribble Valley households in burgundy instead of green wheeled bins.
The move comes after Lancashire County Council decided to mothball some of its waste treatment facilities at the Farington Waste Technology Park. As a result, the composting of mixed garden and food waste is to cease, and county council is only providing facilities for the composting of garden waste.
In 2012, larger green wheeled bins were issued to Ribble Valley gardened properties for the collection of food and garden waste, while smaller green wheeled bins were issued to non-gardened properties for the collection of food waste.
From July 1st, however, food waste will be collected in burgundy bins and only garden waste allowed in green bins.
Other recyclables, such as paper and cardboard, and glass, cans and plastic, will continue to be collected as normal.
