Amazing Anne Geldard has completed the challenge of a lifetime and raised double the amount of cash she expected for charity.
The former district nurse in Clitheroe was looking for a challenge and she certainly found one when she agreed to become part of an all women team of cyclists who rode around 300 miles through Tanzania to support the work of women’s cancer charities, at the age of 70!
The minimum amount she had to raise was £3,000 but Anne has raised a staggering £6,000 which will go towards Breast Cancer Care, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action.
Anne, who has four children and eight grandhcildren, said: “I was one of 94 women who took part in the bike ride. I was great fun and I made a lot of new friends but at times it was really hard going especially away from the main roads cycling up and down hills and through sand.’’ The ride rounded off at the gateway to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and World Heritage site.
Anne wanted to do something to help as she cared for many women with cancer during her 20 year career and she has lost friends and relatives to the disease.
Anne has sent out a heartfelt thanks to the many people, organisations and businesses that sponsored her.
