Clitheroe Chess Club has resumed regular meetings for the 2015-6 season at the Swan and Royal Hotel in Clitheroe.
Meetings are held at 7-30 pm on Tuesday evenings, and players of all standards are welcome to attend.
In recent years the club has fielded two teams in the East Lancs Chess League and achieved real success but sadly, the 2014-5 season was notable only for a rapid decline in the fortunes of the club. The main reason for this reversal was the departure of almost the whole first team, with players lost to work related changes, emigration, illness and educational studies. The result was that both teams were relegated, to the second and third divisions respectively.
The club’s intention for the coming season is to field two teams again and begin the process of rebuilding. To ensure the revival of the club, new players, or former players who can rejoin, are needed.
Those interested are welcome at the club any evening to try for free to see if they want to play regularly. Should they decide to join, the fee is a modest £10 per annum. The competitive part of the season does not begin until October when an away match can reduce the club on Tuesday evening to only two or three members. The fixture list is not yet published but there are only a few club nights when away fixtures intervene. If prospective members want to be sure they are going to a full meeting or want any other information they should phone Eric on 01200 423364.
