A student from Whalley has been selected to represent Great Britain in the under 16s elite ice hockey team in December.

Jacob Lutwyche passed a series of gruelling trials to be chosen to play with the team in Dumfries, Scotland, between Christmas and New Year. He will be playing against Spain, the Netherlands and Belgium in the tournament.

This honour for the year 11 pupil at Oakhill School follows on from a highly successful 2014/15 season as Captain of the under 15s Bradford Bulldogs Ice Hockey Club.

Jacob was also awarded the prestigious All-Stars shirt while helping to secure victory for the Northern England under 15s team at the UK's premier junior ice hockey conference tournament in May of this year.

With a busy schedule studying for his final year of GCSEs Jacob hopes to secure a place at one of the top colleges in Canada to continue his education and his ice hockey success.
