Saturday’s showers wrecked Longridge’s hopes of victory when they met Torrisholme at Newsham.

Longridge had won the toss and chosen to field first with their opponents only able to bat for 21 overs.

In that time, they were able to score at almost six runs per over on their way to setting a challenging total for the home side.

However, the rain arrived in the 10th over of Longridge’s reply with them having set a decent foundation for a possible victory charge, well set on 38-2.

The abandonment meant Longridge went away with three points while their visitors claimed five.

It means Longridge are fourth in the table, nine points behind third-placed Garstang.

For their part, Torrisholme are six points clear of second-bottom Whittingham and Goosnargh.

Longridge’s first XI are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Premier Division leaders, Vernon Carus (1.30pm).

The thirds face Torrisholme in division three (1.30pm), while the fourths are in action against St Annes’ third XI (1.30pm).

Longridge’s Sunday XI are also playing at the weekend as they host Torrisholme (1.30pm).
