Longridge Town 8
Askam United 0
LONGRIDGE recorded their biggest win of the season to date on Saturday afternoon with a resounding 8-0 win over Askam United.
Darley was able to recall Hind in goal but other than that the team remained unchanged from last week's win at Furness Rovers.
Longridge started with a wingback system and after two minutes were ahead thanks to a powerful header from Coar. English did brilliantly down the left and his pinpoint cross was emphatically put away by the striker.
Askam then enjoyed a spell of dominance as they kept possession better than their hosts and Town were grateful to Hind when he produced a brilliant save from a long range effort. Askam's pacy and skilful forwards were testing Garry, Woodruff and Routledge at the back but they held firm.
Dan Fox was to be the next scorer for Longridge, a mistake at the back by Askam allowed him to bend a left footed finish around the keeper into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.
Darley was not happy with what he had seen at half time and reverted back to his tried and trusted 4-4-2 formation. This seemed to have an immediate impact as Longridge dominated play in the second half and started to look much more comfortable.
Fox added to the scoresheet soon after the interval, latching on to a through ball and finishing clinically into the corner.
Moments later he was celebrating a well earned hat-trick when he pounced on a loose ball in the box after Passmore was denied a goal by a fantastic block on the line from the Askam defender.
Darley was able to rest a couple of big names at this point with Melling, who was having a rare off day, making way for Eccles and Ross for the injury prone Chris Cookson.
Fox had a terrific afternoon and added yet another goal to make it 5-0, beating the keeper from a tight angle. He wasn't content with four though and took his personal tally to five late in the game, with dad Derek looking a proud man on the touchline.
Askam continued to push forward and didn't let their heads go down. Hind in the Town goal had to remain alert and pulled off a couple of fantastic saves late on to deny the visitors a consolation goal.
Rick Coar rounded off the scoring with two goals to complete his hat-trick as he looks to keep pace with Fox in the goal scoring stakes. Fox was denied a double hatrick late on as his thunderbolt shot rattled the post .
Another win for Longridge which maintains their 100% league record. Next week they face a difficult game away at Whinney Hill.
Team: Hind 9, Ross 8 (Cookson 6), Woodruff 8, Routledge 8, Garry 6 (Billsborough 7), Passmore 8, English 8, Melling 6 (Eccles 7), Coar 8, Fox 10
