Longridge face tough test for cricket opener

THE fixture list for the new Moore and Smalley Palace Shield cricket season has handed Longridge a trip to Premier League champions Vernon Carus on the opening day.
Saturday, April 19, will also see Whittingham and Goosnargh away from home at Thornton Cleveleys in the Premier League, while in Division One Longridge seconds host Vernon Carus, in Division Three Whittingham and Goosnargh seconds are at home to South Shore seconds and Grimsargh host Fylde.
In Division Four Longridge thirds are at home to Torrisholme seconds and Ribchester visit Thornton Cleveleys thirds.
Both Longridge and Whittingham and Goosnargh first teams will be at home for the first time on the second Saturday of the season, April 26, when Longridge entertain Fylde and Whittingham and Goosnargh host Freckleton.
In the Sunday League the openiong fixtures on April 20 will see Longridge away at Kirkham and Wesham, while Whittinghamd and Goosnargh have a local derby against near neighbours Fulwood and Broughton.
In the opening Wednesday evening 20/20 game Longridge come up against Whittingham and Goosnargh.
New boys Charnock Richard open their Division Two campaign with a trip to South Shore. With the addition of Charnock Richard and several other new teams, the Moore and Smalley competition has once again expanded to include seven Saturday divisions this season.
