LONGRIDGE'S U19 hockey squad finished a respectable third overall in a tournament at Preston Sports Arena against some of the top teams in Lancashire.
The first match was against Lancaster, the play was end to end with both teams having multiple shots of goal. Only great goal keeping from Zoe Kirkham managed to keep Lancaster from scoring multiple goals. But despite her efforts, Lancaster scored their first goal after eight minutes, which was quickly followed by another goal from a short corner.
Although Longridge regained some of the pressure, they could not seem to score a goal. The next game was against Springfields Hockey Club, once again the pressure was end to end but Springfields managed to score first after a good attack on Longridge's goal.
Jess Morris then had a brilliant run from the half way line and scored an excellent equalizer for Longridge.
With great passing in midfield between Jess Morris and Jenny Key, much of the play was in Springfields' half, but Longridge did not manage to get another goal before the full-time whistle went.
The next game was against a very young Garstang side. Longridge passed the ball well and throughout the match had almost all the play in Garstang's half. Jess Morris, Jenny Key and Heidi Barrett each sent a cross past the goal to Sally Monks who scored three well-deserved goals. The score at full time was 3-0 with an excellent game from all the players.
The final game was against Blackpool. Longridge once again had most of the pressure and Heidi Barrett scored a fantastic goal from the edge of the circle. Longridge kept up the pressure but Blackpool scored a goal from a fantastic break and run by one of their players. This left the final score at a draw.
