After its big show the weekend before last, the village of Chipping will see two popular events taking place this weekend.
Both the Chipping and District Horticultural Society annual show and the St Bartholomew’s Church garden party take place on Sunday afternoon.
The horticultural show, held in Chipping Village Hall on Garstang Road, opens to the public at 1pm and the garden party, held at the vicarage, also on Garstang Road, opens at 2pm.
This year’s horticultural show, which is often referred to as “The Little Harrogate” and is one of the finest of its kind in the north-west with amazing displays of high quality flowers and vegetables, is being dedicated to the memory of Michael Newell, a Chipping resident and businessman who raised a lot of sponsorship for the event.
Admission is £1.50 and there will be a raffle and refreshments. Anyone wishing to show their produce can call 01995 61426. Entries will be taken up until 10pm on Friday.
The show raises funds for the village hall and the committee recently donated a wooden bench with carved wooden vegetables and flowers.
At the garden party there will be various stalls, including ones for plants and produce, a tombola, cakes, good-as-new items, books, cheese and wine. There will also be a raffle and children’s games.
