The transformation of Garstang’s lesiure facilities could be decided by the town’s people - but time is quickly running out.
Wyre Council is investing £300,000 in improving the facilities at Garstang Swimming Pool and Garstang Leisure Centre and it’s only a matter of days before plans are finalised.
So far residents have highlighted the changing rooms and showers as areas for major improvement. The gym facilities have also been targeted and the council has now drawn up plans for users to give their views on.
The designs, available on the council’s wesbite, show how the improvements would be carried out with the deadline for any comments on May 27, 2016 and the council hope to have the work finished by the end of summer.
In a statement on its website, Wyre Council said: “We plan to refurbish both male and female changing rooms, increase the size of the shower area and provide new lockers and cubicles.
“Customers at the leisure centre have asked for improved gym facilities and can also look forward to refurbished changing rooms, toilets and a new disabled changing facility. The reception area will be improved.
“Designs for each facility have been produced and we welcome your comments on the proposals. You can also visit either centre where there is a comment book available alongside the plans.”
The changing rooms haven’t been changed for almost 40 years according to Michael Harrison, senior marketing manager at the YMCA, who said in February the revamp was “well overdue”.
Work is set to begin in July and finish at the end of Summer. Only the pool will be closed during the work.
And now Wyre Council wants residents to comment on the plans and add their views at www.wyre.gov.co.uk. The deadline is May 27.
