After a highly successful winter season, when both membership and concert attendance was up by nearly 30%, the Clitheroe Concert Society presents its summer concert on Wednesday June 1st.

It will be held in the Ribble Valley Council Chamber in Church Street, Clitheroe, and

Luba Tunnicliffe (viola) and Oliver Wass (harp) will play a selection from Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet, Bach’s Partita No.2 and Britten’s Lachrymae: reflections on a song by Dowland.

After the interval, Tchaikovsky’s Melodie from Souvenir d’un Lien Cher; Ravel’s Jeux d’Eau, Posse’s Carnival of Venice and finally Arnold Bax’s Sonata for Harp and Viola will be played.

The concert is unusual in that there are no tickets and no admission charges – although the audience will be asked to contribute towards the costs, if they can.

It’s ideal for members to invite family or friends or for non-members to experience a concert with two very highly regarded London-based musicians. Previously this year, people have come to the concerts from all over Lancashire and Cheshire, York and even London.

The musicians are sponsored by the Countess of Munster Trust and the Mayor of Ribble Valley, Coun. Joyce Holgate will be present, as will the Mayor of Clitheroe and President of the Society, Coun. Mark French.

The first concert of the 2016-17 season and 65th year of the Society will be held at 7:30 on Wednesday, October 5th at Clitheroe Royal Grammar School in York Street. See the Society’s website www.clitheroeconcerts.org for details.
