From God’sport to Priest’s Town - and back again.
In other words from the mediaeval Gosport to contemporary Preston six years ago and soon back to Gosport again after Easter.
That will be the return journey for the Rev Helen Higgin-Botham, minister for Christ Church in Longridge since 2007.
Helen, who is also minister at Fulwood United Reformed Church, said: “I’m going back to my faith roots after being made to feel so at home in Longridge and Fulwood on my arrival all that time ago.”
She is returning to her ‘sending church,’ St Columba’s in Gosport, from where she was appointed to Longridge and Fulwood as her first post in the ministry.
Mother-of-three and married to former Royal Signals serviceman Colin, Helen’s was a late call to the church, a call which she decided to test again after hearing about a vacancy at her old church.
“There comes a point when you perhaps feel it’s time to move on, a part consideration being going back to family territory as I’ve family in Portsmouth. I had a grilling with the elders, asked to ‘preach with a view’ and then invited to be minister, which I will be at both St Columba’s and Bury Road URC.”
Helen will take her last services in her churches on Easter Sunday and intends to ‘go out on a note of celebration.’ She was born in Colne and has loved returning to family roots.
She said: “I must thank all those who have supported me and helped me feel that Longridge was home. There will be so many who I will miss but we will keep in touch.”
