Ribble Valley Borough Council is at the forefront of a new scheme to recycle furniture.
The council has joined forces with Clitheroe Christians Together to distribute unwanted furniture to low income families.
Good quality furniture plus volunteers to drive and lift are needed to ensure the scheme is a success.
The scheme is administered by Open Door Furniture Recycling Ltd, a Pendle-based not-for-profit community organisation that provides basic furniture, appliances and household items to families in need. All items are fit for purpose and fire proof, and electrical appliances are PAT tested. Although not free, the items are provided at modest cost to recipients.
The borough’s strategic housing manager, Rachael Stott, said: “Open Door’s furniture recycling scheme has proved a great success in neighbouring boroughs and we look forward to working with our partners to bring the scheme to Ribble Valley. We particularly need quality basic furniture, which donors can be assured is going to a good cause, and volunteer drivers able to lift.”
