Racers take over village for Sunday run

Hundreds of runners, young and old and from villages across the district, pulled on their running shoes in memory of local dad Philip Sherriff for the Bikes and Barrows Sherriff 10km run.

The bumper turnout for the charity run and fun run, organised by Philip’s friend and Garstang firefighter Chris Horner, guaranteed a boost to the campaign efforts of Philip’s widow Jane, who set-up the Bottlestop Charity after his death in 2012.

Competitors set-off from the Methodist Chapel at 10am on Sunday, day two of the popular festival, which welcomed thousands of supporters over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Youngsters in fancy dress, including Jane and her two children Megan and Rowan, took part in a mile-long fun route around the village and Isacc Backhouse from Cockerham was first over the finish line.
