Another development of up to 190 homes could be built on the edge of Longridge if controversial plans are approved.
Gladman Developments Ltd has lodged an application to build homes between Inglewhite Road and Halfpenny Lane.
But neighbours have criticised the proposals, and said they were “totally opposed” to any housing in that area.
The Cheshire-based organisation has submitted an outline application for a development on an 8.04ha site, with new highway access, public open space, internal access roads, and also landscaping plus associated infrastructure.
The land is currently in agricultural use, but is described as a “convenient and sustainable location for development”.
A design and access statement submitted to Preston Council said: “The proposed development framework and illustrative views have been drawn up to take account of contextual influences from streets and spaces found in Longridge.
“These positive precedents will ground the design in its context. At the same time site characteristics including existing trees and hedgerows have also shaped the approach.
“Input from public consultation, the local authority and the consultant team have in addition been influential. The overall result will be a distinctive place that is sensitively designed and relates well to local character.
“It will also provide sustainable development that will consolidate the urban edge of Longridge and help to meet local housing needs.”
However, residents have raised concerns about the proposals, and Whittingham Parish Council will consider the application at its meeting on May 12.
Whittingham Parish Council clerk Julie Buttle said: “We have opposed other applications in that area because the local plan specifies there should be an area of separation there.
“And because of that, it’s likely that the parish council will take the view again that it shouldn’t go ahead.
“We want an area of separation between Whittingham and Longridge.”
