Hordes of princesses and knights gathered at a village hall in record numbers.

The occasion was for the selection of the new rose queen and retinue for this year’s Grimsargh Field Day, which is taking place on Saturday, June 25.

Committee members got into the spirit of the afternoon by wearing appropriate attire, but sad to say, they were not really “knights in shining armour”.

Junior princesses and knights may not have slain any dragons, but they had lots of fun, playing on a large, inflatable castle and relished the opportunity to throw wet sponges at chairman Keith Middlebrough, who valiantly took up his position in the stocks.

Heidi Thompson, 11, who enjoys art, craft and sport was selected as the new queen and is looking forward to the day.
