Spectators saw the thrills and spills of circuit race cycling on Friday night as the Clitheroe Grand Prix returned to the town’s streets for the first time since 2005.

Crowds saw three races during an evening of high speed entertainment with the young riders kicking things off at 6-30pm, the top amateurs then took their turn at 7-15pm and they were followed by the elite riders who rolled out at 8-15pm.

Competitors were asked to tackle a tough 900m town centre circuit and people lined the route to catch a glimpse of the action on Castle Street, Wellgate, Lowergate and the climb up Moor Lane.

The evening’s racing was rounded off just before 9-30pm when Richard Hepworth of Team Raleigh GAC took victory in the elite race with a well timed sprint.
