Between glorious sunshine, tributes to an old friend and thousands turning out, this year’s Garstang Children’s Festival has been hailed as one of the best.

Festival chairman Julie Bell labelled it a “fantastic event” as a dozen tableaux made their way through the market town to the sound of playing bands.

Joined by the popular morris dancers as well as the crowning of the festival queen and a field of sporting events, this was the first festival since the death of David Gardner, the former secretary who had been “a huge part of the festival”.

Julie said: “The weather was wonderful and although we missed David terribly, I think it was a still a great day and everyone enjoyed it.”
