An MP has called for Lancashire County Council to be placed in special measures, slamming it as “unfit for purpose.”

Mr Nigel Evans, Ribble Valley MP, claimed the county council was “failing residents.”

He said: “It has become clear to me that Lancashire County Council are failing the residents of the Ribble Valley. I have serious concerns about Lancashire County Council, and am of the opinion that many of the funding choices they have made in recent months have been politically motivated and have discriminated against rural areas of the county.

“This has been confirmed to me after the recent announcement that eight libraries are to be closed in the Ribble Valley. This has come hot on the heels of a fiasco over the funding of bus services, with the 1,500 residents of Sabden being left totally stranded and without any service.

Mr Evans has contacted the Communities and Local Government Secretary Greg Clark to request that Lancashire County Council be placed in special measures by his Department claiming the body has consistently acted “against” the best interests of residents.
