Melody’s last chance to wear Field Day crown
Longridge Field Day Queen Melody Golder with her attendants
Five years ago Melody Golder’s biggest wish was to be chosen as Longridge Field Day Queen.
This year the 14-year-old Longridge lass’s wish was granted when she was picked for the role at the Lions Christmas Bazaar in December.
Now, with organiser of the ‘royal’ section Cath Reid, Melody has gathered her attendants and page around her and is looking forward to the big day on Saturday, June 8.
She wrote for the News: “I go to Archbishop Temple High School and I have been wanting to be Longridge Field Day since the age of nine.
“I am so glad I got chosen this year as it is my last chance. My page this year is a little boy that I look after called Raiden Jones, he is very excited as well.
“My hobbies include dancing, singing and mainly listening to music. I represent my school along with other pupils every year in a dancing group.
“I love to socialise with my friends by going out ice skating and shopping.
“I can’t wait to be Longridge Field Day Queen and I hope I make everyone proud.”
With her page Raiden, Melody’s other attendants are Loren Haworth, Evie Mercer, Emma Worden, Sophie Dewhurst, Rhianne Towers, Rhiannon Jones, Caitlin Winstanley and Emily Stokes.
They will accompany her in the traditional procession of floats, walking tableaux and fancy dress entries from the Civic Hall, around Longridge and then onto the field for the crowning ceremony and all the day’s events. Judging the floats and other classes will be former Field Day committee members David and Miranda Radford, Pam Cliff and Margaret Brown, plus Longridge mayor and mayoress, Coun David Moon and wife, Sheila.
