Hundreds support Ollie and Jade day
Hundreds of people went down to Longridge Recreation Ground to take part in and support the Ollie and Jade annual sports day.
Lorraine Harrison, head of the organising committee, said: “We were blessed with blue skies this year after last year’s rain soaked day. It was disappointing to have to cancel the children’s football tournament in the morning, but the day was still a great success and a whopping £974 was raised.”
Eight mixed rounders team took part with the Lads beating ‘Lads and Lasses in the final.
The men’s football tournament was won, in their first year of taking part, by Longridge Cricket Club.
After the matches, many joined the committee back at the British Legion for a few drinks and a buffet. The raffle and football cards were drawn and a bottle of whisky and a large cheese were won by rolling coins.
The committee would like to thank everyone who took part, or helped and supported the day for the two very worthy causes through which the late Andrew Hollingworth – kbows as Ollie – and Jade Cronshaw are remembered by rasiing funds for cancer and epilepsy research. A special thank you went to the McDowell family for providing electricity when the generator failed, and to Hurst Green FC who held a veterans football match on the day, raising £285.
