The 2013 Chipping Horticultural Show was ‘the best ever,’ with more exhibits and a spectacular display of vegetables, flowers and plants.
The number of exhibitors also increased, proof the reputation of the show is building.
These included both local growers and national champions from as far afield as Bradford, Barrow-in-Furness and Oldham.
The exceptional quality of the produce made each class a close contest, and the expert judges did a fine job using their skills and knowledge to award points and special prizes.
The dahlia Judge had a particularly tough task with twice the number of entries in the championship class.
Trophies were presented by guests of honour Margaret and Bill Robinson, who also selected the overall best in show which this year went to Mr. E Shepley of Stockport for his prizewinning chrysanthemums.
Once again growers from the village did well in the vegetable section, and all three trophies in the ‘Pot Plant and Mixed Flowers’ section were won by local people.
The show was well attended and the organisers thanked Chipping WI for providing refreshments, including a wonderful selection of homemade cakes.
They are also grateful to volunteers who gave up their Sunday afternoon to sell raffle tickets for a wonderful selection of prizes which had all been donated.
They thanked event sponsors who made the show possible by providing funding, trophies and special awards.
