A Clitheroe landlady plans to celebrate her 50th birthday on Friday (May 13th) with a moving tribute to a toddler whose heartbreakng story touched thousands of lives across the world.
Debbie Leonard is holding a party to mark the big 50 at which she will also release 300 balloons at the Kings Arm in tribute to Poppy-Mai Barnard. The inspirational Blackburn tot died earlier this month at the age of two after a brave battle against cancer. Debbie was one of the thousands of people who had followed the tragic toddler’s story on Facebook along with many of her friends.
Debbie said: “I wanted to pay tribute to this brave little girl and thought that this would be a wonderful gesture and give the people of Clitheroe the chance to be involved.
“So many people have been following Poppy-Mai’s story.”
The balloon release takes place between 6pm and 6-30pm and there is also a collection bucket at the pub for donations towards Poppy’s field, a project the family have started to create a campsite retreat for sick children and their families. The target is £100,000 and the total currently stands at £29,000.
