Once again the annual Garstang 10k and Fun Run - in aid of Garstang Community Academy - attracted hundreds of competitors and also a good crowd of supporters.
On a day said to be “perfect for running” by academy community and marketing co-ordinator Geoff Markland, more than 500 runners took part in the 10k and 2k road run.
“It is a very, very popular event, part of the runners’ calendar,” said Mr Markland, adding race organiser Shoestring had donated more than £1,900 back to school from race proceeds. He said: “It is the biggest community event we hold here and the biggest fund raiser in the year.”
Proceeds were given a further boost by the PSA (parents and staff association) which organised the refreshments, to the tune of £530.
Mr Markland said the funds from the race usually went to the sports department to help with new equipment.
Race winner was Jon Fletcher from Border Harriers in 33 mins 01 seconds with Robert Anthony Danson of Wesham RR coming in second place with a time of 33 minutes 09 seconds.
