High school students take first place in annual technology tournament’s intermediate section

A team from Ribblesdale High School won the intermediate section of the annual Rotary International/BAE Systems Technology Tournament involving more 100 schools from Lancashire and Cumbria.

The tournament saw around 300 teams take part at 10 regional centres.

The local Blackburn with Darwen, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley event took place at The Hollins Technology College, Accrington, with 12 schools participating. A total of 112 children made up 28 teams of four plus teams of teachers. This year the three sections foundation, intermediate and advanced had different challenges around a common task involving a civil engineering project about the Bay Gateway Bridge.

A team of only three from Ribblesdale High School won the intermediate section, Bowland High School at Grindleton were runners up. The foundation section winners were St Wilfrid’s CE Academy, Blackburn and Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Blackburn, the runners up. The advanced section winners were Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Blackburn.
