We did it - that was the message from Garstang’s former mayor County Coun Sandra Perkins as she presented a cheque to a charity which has a very special significance for her.
Sandra presented more than £3,000 to Salford Royal after a dedicated year of fund raising in memory of her late husband Alan.
He was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) after being referred to the Cerebral Function Unit (CFU) at Salford Royal, an international centre for clinical diagnosis and research into dementia.
The money raised will now be used for for the research and treatment of dementia.
Sandra, who agreed to donate Alan’s brain for research purposes, says more brain donations are needed to help advance the research.
She had her head shaved, organised coffee mornings and quiz nights and even sold off her mayoral hats to raise a total of £4,100, with £1,000 going to Alexandra House at Lancaster.
County Coun Perkins was town mayor from 2012 to 2013 and has now distributed all the proceeds of her mayoral charity events.
She says a big thank you is due to all the generous people of Garstang who donated to her chosen causes.
Sandra’s sister Rea Meredith, and her mayoress Gilllian Lamb also attended the presentation.
