The five churches which make up Churches Together in Longridge have put their best collective feet together to produce a walk-inspiring leaflet.

Their “Footsteps of Faith” leaflet sets out the wealth of history of five churches on a Christian heritage faith trail. The project sprung from the CTL’s desire to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee by working together on a joint project.

In 700 words for each church, the leaflet describes the history of St Paul’s, St Lawrence’s, St Wilfrid’s, Christ Church and Alston Lane.

Appropriately, the leaflet was launched at the ecumenical service held at Alston Lane to mark the week of prayer for Christian Unity.

CTL members hope the Faith Trail will complement the successful Longridge Heritage Trail. At the launch, secretary Dot Little said the leaflet made fascinating reading as it was not only about the past but also about people who, through their faith, vision and commitment, had left their own footsteps.

She added: “We, in our time, are now called to leave ours – building on the past and, as ‘living churches’ ,walking forward. It is hoped that both local people and visitors will enjoy walking the trail and visiting the churches, learning something of the Christian heritage of our town which spans over 500 years, starting with the building of St Lawrence’s Church.”

Thanks went to Richard Kirkby, of Longridge Heritage Committee, for his support, leaflet designer Mike Garner, from Cleveleys, Shay Lane printer AVJ Print and sponsors Longridge Town Council and William Houghton Funeral Directors. It is now on sale for £1 in all the churches and at the Heritage Centre where it is on display with other items of interest.

l CTL members hosted the market day coffee and lunch slot at the civic hall last Thursday when special guests were eleven small members of Longridge’s 2-to-School Preschool.

The two and three-year-olds were on one of their regular “walking-rope” outings with manager Yvonne Williams and staff who host the coffee slot on February 21.
