The 46th annual North of England Championship Show organised by Longridge and District Fanciers Association was hailed as very successful by organisers.

Held at Clitheroe Auction Mart last Saturday, it attracted exhibitors from throughout the north.

“Another great day when everything went to plan,” said association president Allan Procter, secretary Andrew Richardson adding that the auction mart held a pure breed poultry sale on the same day and this complemented both organisations.

As well as a record entry number in the major classes, 176 plates of eggs were judged by Andrew Clark, of Banks, 63 waterfowl entries were a record for local judge Tom Alty, of Bartle, and the 53 junior exhibits made a very good showing.

Just after the show, Allan Procter revealed he and his wife, Dinah, while attending the annual general meeting of the Poultry Club of Great Britain at Stoneleigh in November, had been presented with honorary life membership for ‘devotion to duty.’

“It was a great surprise and such an honour for us both for devotion to duty - can you believe it!” he said.
