A Clitheroe A Level 3 professional cookery student from Accrington and Rossendale College got the chance to put her culinary skills to the test when she hosted her very own Brought to You By menu in the college’s state-of-the-art Roots Restaurant.
Rachel Pinder (18) took full control of the college’s multi-million pound Roots Restaurant, serving up a menu that she had planned, created and prepared herself.
The evening, which sold out extremely quickly, featured a rich taste of flavours spread across starters, mains and desserts which included spiced beef rump, salt and Szechuan pepper king prawns and popping candy crisp and toffee apple cake with ginger fudge bonfire frosting.
Rachel said: “Being in charge of a kitchen and front of house is challenging, but it’s something I have really enjoyed. I have been planning this evening for a long time now and I think it went extremely well. All the diners had a great time and it was great to receive excellent feedback on the quality of food.”
Anthony Muldowney, chef lecturer at Accrington and Rossendale College, added: “I’m extremely proud of the way Rachel performed and I can’t praise her enough. Not only did she demonstrate fantastic culinary skills, but also showed great leadership skills and that’s what you need when running an event like this.”
Next to host their very own Brought to You By menu is Level 3 professional cookery student Callum Burrill who works as a commis chef at Mitton Hall. Callum’s theme is Game Around The World and will take place on Thursday.
